How to install your accessories

* A quick note… these free Windows accessories do not require any installation program. They are individual, small files that simply need to be put in the appropriate location so Windows can find them. The best way to accomplish this is to download the files directly into their appropriate locations. Those locations are outlined in these directions. Unless you are familiar with this process, it is recommended that you read and print those instructions and have them on hand before you begin the download process. After you have downloaded your desktop accessories, follow these simple directions to begin using them immediately, no rebooting is necessary. In these directions the words "folder" and "directory" are synonymous as well as "picture" and "image".

You may want to read the Tips on Downloading page before you begin.

Cursors:
Cursors (both animated and static) should to be located in the Windows Cursors directory to make them easy to find in the Mouse Properties window (Step 5). If you downloaded them directly to that directory, skip to Step 2. If you downloaded them anywhere else they should be copied or moved there before you start.

  1. Copy the downloaded cursor file or files (F-117.cur and/or F-117.ani) to the C:\WINDOWS\CURSORS folder using My Computer or Windows Explorer. If you are using Windows NT or Windows 2000, copy them to the C:\WINNT\CURSORS folder.
  2. Click on the Start button, go to Settings, then click on Control Panel.
  3. In the Control Panel window, double click on the Mouse icon.
  4. When the Mouse Properties window opens, click on the Pointers tab.
  5. The "Normal Select" cursor will be highlighted by default and will show the cursor that you are currently using. Click on the Browse button (this will take you straight to the Cursors folder).
  6. All the cursors available for use with Windows should now be showing in the resulting pop up window, including both of your new F-117 cursors. If there are a lot of cursors in this window you may need to scroll to find it. They are in alphabetical order. When you find it, single click on it to display it in the preview (be sure to select the F-117.cur file, not the F-117.ani file).
  7. Click on the Open button and it will take you back to the Mouse Properties window. It should now be showing the F-117 now as the "Normal Select" cursor.
  8. If you are finished making selections, click the Apply button and your cursor will instantly change to your new F-117 cursor. (Go to step 9 now if you also downloaded the Animated F-117 cursor) Hit the OK button if you wish to close this window and then close the Control Panel.
  9. If you also downloaded the Animated F-117 cursor, you can set that up now as well. In the mouse properties window, click on the "Busy" cursor and it will become highlighted (the Windows default is the animated hour glass).
  10. Click on the Browse button again (this will take you straight to the Cursors folder).
  11. Again, all the cursors available for use with Windows should now be showing in the resulting pop up window, including both of your new F-117 cursors. If there are a lot of cursors in this window you may need to scroll to find it. They are in alphabetical order, when you find it, Single click on it to display it in the preview (Be sure to select the F-117.ani file, not the F-117.cur file).
  12. Click on the Open button and it will take you back to the Mouse Properties window showing the F-117 now as the "Busy" cursor.
  13. If you are finished making selections, click the Apply button and your animated cursor will instantly change to your new F-117 cursor. (You will not see it until the computer is busy ) Click the OK button to close this window and then close the Control Panel.

Desktop Wallpaper:
Desktop Wallpapers are nothing more than pictures displayed on you desktop. To make them easy to find in the Desktop Settings (step 3); they should be located in the Windows or WINNT directory. If you downloaded them directly to that directory, skip to Step 2. If you downloaded them anywhere else they should to be copied or moved there before you start.

  1. Copy the downloaded image file or files to the C:\WINDOWS folder using My Computer or Windows Explorer. If you are using Windows NT or Windows 2000, copy them to the C:\WINNT folder.
  2. Right click any where on your Desktop as long as it's not on top of one of the icons. This will bring up a menu.
  3. From that menu, click on Properties. This will bring up the Display Properties window.
  4. All the available pictures for use on your desktop will be displayed in the window, including your new images. You may need to scroll down to find them. Click on the image (it will become highlighted) you wish to use.
  5. Depending on the Operating System of your computer you will have different choices for how the image will be displayed on the monitor. The best choice is "Stretch" if it is available. "Center" is the next best choice. "Tile" is not recommended.
  6. After you've made your choices, click on the Apply button and then the OK button.
