CREDIT UNION SUPPORTS LOCAL CHAPTER
OF SPECIAL OLYMPICS FOR SECOND YEAR

VALENCIA, CALIFORNIA, April 5, 2004 — Lockheed Federal Credit Union (LFCU) has pledged a Silver level sponsorship to the Santa Clarita Valley Special Olympics (SCVSO).  LFCU joined several other local businesses and individuals in committing to supporting the SCVSO.  This is the second consecutive year LFCU is sponsoring the organization, this commitment is but one of several ways LFCU and its employees are making a difference to the SCVSO and the athletes involved in their program.

In addition to being a high-level corporate sponsor, LFCU has established a special relationship with the SCVSO.  Through LFCU’s charitable outreach program, “LFCU Community Stars,” employees have many different opportunities to become involved on many different levels.  Currently LFCU employees are involved with serving on the SCVSO Planning Committee, participating in local fundraising efforts, coaching specific sports, as well as volunteering at local events and donating money through payroll deduction.  Last year LFCU employees donated over $2,100 of their own money to SCVSO and provided more than forty volunteers for their annual Spirit Games.

SCVSO is growing rapidly and expanding their outreach to provide athletic training and competition to over 400 individuals with mental retardation.  They host thirteen different sporting activities, from basketball and aquatics, to winter sports and golf.  SCVSO is widely-recognized in the Santa Clarita community as being extremely innovative and quite successful in their fundraising.  SCVSO will host their annual Spirit Games in Newhall on Saturday, May 15th.

“We are dedicated to supporting the Santa Clarita Special Olympics because they do such a great job in their community.” Says LFCU CEO and president, Dave Styler.
In addition to supporting and participating in SCVSO’s events, Lockheed Community Stars volunteers also work throughout the year for charities such as Meals on Wheels, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and Make A Wish Foundation.

LFCU is a not-for-profit cooperative financial institution, which operate much like a traditional bank, except it is owned and controlled by the people who use their services, commonly called “members.”  LFCU returns its earnings to members through lower loan rates, higher dividends and convenient services.

In business for over 66 years and one of the largest credit unions in the country, LFCU currently serves 100,000 members nationwide.  Due to its longevity and asset size, LFCU offers undeniable stability and a full array of financial services while maintaining better rates and higher service standards.  For more information about LFCU, credit unions, or their involvement in local events call (800) 328-LFCU or visit www.lockheedfcu.org.
