LFCU COMMUNITY STARS

At LFCU, we are active in the communities we serve. From supporting local charity fund raising or pitching in to make things happen with our Community Stars Volunteers, to reaching out to youth in schools and to adults to provide free educational seminars, LFCU reaches out to the community in many ways.

Developed by LFCU employees, LFCU Community Stars was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation to provide support to local charities selected by LFCU employees through volunteerism and financial donations. LFCU employees are able to volunteer during their normal work hours and can make contributions to the chosen charities through LFCU Community Stars' Charitable Contribution Program via payroll deduction. Every year, LFCU Community Stars will select charities to support.

LFCU also offers a donations-matching program for employees who make contributions through Stars' Charitable Contributions Program.

In 2008, LFCU will support these local charities through volunteer efforts: Burbank Temporary Aid Center, Penny Lane, Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center and weSPARK Cancer Support Center.

Since 2005, LFCU has donated to non-profit organizations and employees have given a combined total of more than $50,000 to American Cancer Society, Boys and Girls Club of Burbank, Guide Dogs of America, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Meals on Wheels and Special Olympics.

Partner to Paint
On Thursday, March 27, more than 40 Lockheed Federal Credit Union employees volunteered their time to paint four portable classrooms at Bret Harte Elementary School in Burbank.

Burbank Unified School District employees helped select the location for the annual community project, which is less than one mile from the credit union's headquarters. Recently, the main school buildings were renovated, but the portable units were not and the contrast between the main buildings and the portables was striking. For this reason, these portable units were in desperate need of a coat of paint. The school's fourth- and fifth-graders returned from spring break to find that their classrooms had been freshly painted.

In 2007, LFCU employee volunteers painted longtime member Sally Ecklund's home in North Hollywood. Mrs. Ecklund has lived in her current residence since 1959. She graduated with an associate's degree from Virginia Intermont College and performed and sang for the United Service Organizations, Inc., (USO). Mrs. Ecklund's late husband worked for Lockheed in the 1960s and 70s.

In 2006, LFCU employee volunteers painted the home of long time members, Frank and Betty Ronge. Mr. Ronge is a World War II veteran who retired from Lockheed after 38 years of service.

LFCU's annual Partner-to-Paint program is designed to provide assistance to the community by painting a structure in need of an exterior coat of paint, in an area LFCU serves. LFCU offers volunteer time off  to employees who donate their time to complete this community service. (A selection process is determined by LFCU.)
